Katya's Story

In order to truly understand the frightening experience we went through in October of 2008, you will need to read our story from the beginning to the end. Each email was written at the time it was actually happening. Our current situation is that we now have guardianship of Katya, she is living with us at home in Kiev, and we have started the one year long adoption process. Click the links in order to read each section of Katya's story.

Day Fifteen - Its not Over

October 21, 2008

PLEASE PRAY -- KATYA AND JUDY ARE STILL IN ORPHANAGE

Dear friends and family,

This is a quick email update to ask for your continuing prayers with
our situation. We wrote that we should have been able to receive the
guardianship papers on Monday night and bring Katya home today
(Tuesday). Unfortunately, there has been another glitch in the
system. This is not unusual, but we were hoping that we could move
things quickly along. The guardianship papers have been written, but
they require several signatures. The last two signatures which we
need are from the Social Services'  lawyer as well as the Director of
our region of Kiev. The Director does not sign until all of the other
signatures have been collected. The hold-up is that the head lawyer
is currently on vacation and the assistant lawyer is sick at home.
One of these two men must sign our papers. Our lawyer asked for them
to be considerate of Katya's situation and get someone else to sign
it. They said that only one of these two men can sign it and then it
must go to the Director.

Ivan, our lawyer does not anticipate any problems, but we must get
these signatures. The office thinks that the sick lawyer will be back
to work tomorrow or Thursday. If all goes well, we can still get
Katya home on Friday. Please pray for the health of this lawyer and
that we will get the final two signatures soon.

Judy will be staying in the village near Katya for the rest of the
week. They are both tired, but they also want to use this time to
minister to others. Judy was discouraged today because some people
stole the hardware which they were using to build shelves for a toy
lending library at the orphanage. Continue to pray for their health
and strength while they are living in Kamarovka.

Serving Him together,

Mike for the family
